Considered one of the holiest temples in India, the temple of Vaishno Devi resides at an altitude of over 5000 feet above the sea level. Vaishno Devi, also known as Vaishnavi and Mata Rani, is at a distance of 12 km from Katra.  Every year, nearly a million devotees visit the temple to offer their prayers to the deity. A board, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, has been setup by the Government to look after the welfare of the temple.

From Katra, apart from walking, few other modes of transportation are available. The J&K Government offers helicopter services from both Jammu and Katra to the temple. Little ponies and Palkis are also available for the journey. However, most of the devotees prefer the journey on foot to reach the temple. It takes nearly 4 hours to reach the temple, and 3 hours to come back downhill.

"Blessed Darshan" new review

  • 7.00/7
  • Posted 3 days ago
Shrine board has introduced lots of new services with Horse ride and helicopter which makes easy for the travellers for the Mata Rani darshan. Several places available for purchasing meals. It is recommended for the old age travellers to book for Helicopter service when visiting there, since it is difficult to go on horse, you will get tired and will feel uncomfortable after sitting for the long time.

Very good darshan and a nice trip. Each and every person needs to go atleast once in lifetime. Actually we have gone in navratri season. Quite long queue but moved very fastly. There are three dwaras for darshan of "Mata Vaishno Devi".

"Awesome religious experience"

The visit to Mata Vaishno Devi mandir was a pleasant one. The essence of the peace, the power of goddess Vaishno Devi is all over there. The temple is very beautiful located on top of mountain. The paidal yatra to temple was very terrific, the place is full of lives. There are activities going on at every turn, the people there are really helpful, overall a full value to money spent.

One look at the three idols of goddess and your whole strength comes back. The temple is rich in detail, the security guarding temple premises is unbelievable.

"Soothing experience"

  • 7.00/7

This was my 2nd darshan here. Besides everything else, the only thing that bothered me was the dirt in patches along the track. Other than that, its always been very soothing, full of energy otherwise I still don't know how do people including myself can walk 25 kms straight.

"Feel relaxed"

  • 7.00/7

This was my first visit & a great experience. It's really tiring if you decide to climb by feet, however once you reach at the top there are no words to express the feeling. You feel relaxed & piece of mind after darshan.
