Hotel Review of Varkala Marine Palace
Comments: I would rephrase the term 'small is beautiful' to 'Simple is beautiful': that is what this place was. An amazing place to spend a week leisurely at the beachside. The resort was a few tens of metres from the waves and you could listen to the waves singing, from inside your room lazying on the Diwan. If you are someone expecting 4 star comfort and high class sophistication then this definitely is not the place for you. The room itself was part of a typical traditional Nalukettu style Cottage which houses six rooms each having its own personal verandah space. The walls and the ceiling were all made of wood complying to traditional kerala architecture and the ambience was nothing less than a homestay in a kerala village. But the place around the restaurant needs to be cleaned up a bit. Though the resort arranges for a lot of activities like house-boats, ayurvedic treatments, speed-boat rides etc., I just spent the time enjoying the magnificient view of the sea from the restaurant and walking along the beach throughout the day. I guess this is not a very popular holiday spot which keeps the mad crowd away and all you can find is the foreigners who are requlars to this place. This makes the swim in the sea a great experience. All day long I would just love to lie on the beach reading a book or day dreaming. The Restaurant overlooks the beach and the food the resort serves is among the best you can get. The two days I spent there I tried as many different cuisines as possible and was overly attracted to their sea food dishes. I checked out after a two night staying promising to go back for a longer stay.
Best Experience: The food was extremely good and not expensive at all for resort standards. Sipping beer in the restaurant tables overlooking the beach at around midnight listening to the ferocious waves slapping the mud bunks and rocks was as good an experience as anything you can have.
Worst Experience: The place around the resort and the restaurant could be kept a bit clean. The place around could do with better lighting
