voted as clean

Devoted to Lord Shiva, the Vishwanath Temple is situated around 300 m away from Uttarkashi’s local bus stand. This temple received a new look after its renovation in 1857 by Sudarshan Shah’s wife, Maharani Khaneti. The temple has a Shivling, 90 cm wide and 60 cm high. It is a very famous spot for visitors to Gangotri, Uttarkashi and Yamunotri.

This is ancient Shiva temple. Now it has been renovated. It is beautiful and located in the centre of town. Nearby Rama temple is also there. In the premises, Shakti and Hanuman temples are located.

"A famous temple"

Viswanath Temple in Uttarkashi is in the center of the town itself. In the temple complex area Shakthi Temple and on the right side Hanuman Temple is also seen. The entire temple area is well-maintained and the view of high hills from this temple area is extremely attractive.

"One of the most holy shrines in India"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted Aug 25, 2014
One of the most holy shrines in India. Better to go early in the morning. I visited the temple at night. There were hardly any queues, and the darshan of jyotirlingam happened in less than five minutes. Security was pretty tight.
