Taj Madikeri Resort & Spa, Coorg, Madikeri

I simply fell in love with this place - I never wanted to leave! This place is heaven for anyone who is remotely interested in nature, and if you are a fan of rain forests like I am, this is the place to be. The hotel staff is amiable, enthusiastic, and always trying to make your trip interesting and unique. The infinity pool opens up into the valleys. There is also the gym, the activity centre, a restaurant specialised in local cuisine - but it is nothing like your standard hotels. It has a different flavour to it, and to really enjoy the place, soak in what is around and just let go! Do carry umbrellas! (Luckily the hotel provides but make sure you pick one up when going into the city or the forests! It's not called rainforests for nothing!) You could also go for rainforest walks, there are knowledgeable naturalists on site to make your trip unique. The adventurous could also try white water rafting, but the place is more about relaxing and sitting back and appreciating nature. My belief is that every room has massive glass windows that look over valleys densely populated with the rainforest - its absolutely spectacular.
My husband and myself visited Coorg with our 16 months old son. We stayed at Taj for 3 nights and we totally loved it. My son specially enjoyed thoroughly. He had so much space to run around and so many people (the Taj staff) to play with! The resort is huge, very beautiful and people were so friendly, very hospitable. The hotel is exactly as shown in the pics. There are 2 swimming pools - one outdoor and one indoor heated pool (actually not really heated) plus 2 jacuzzis (also not heated). The room and the washroom was huge (we had a basic room). Though I feel the room was not baby friendly at all, there were stairs inside so enough opportunity for children to get hurt (but anyway, they are not promoting their hotel as baby friendly, so its alright)! The amenities in the room were pretty good, TV could have a tata sky connection which it didn't, otherwise it was all good. The service was very good throughout. There were instances though, where they were very slow in handling our requests, specially at the front desk, when we had called to help us in locating our driver. Our cellphones didn't have any network in the entire resort which was problematic. Housekeeping was also prompt and they would clean the rooms twice every day without being told! The hotel overall was really good. But again, they don't have too many restaurants like other big hotels in big cities. They have one all day dining, one Coorg specialty and one bar b que themed restaurant. So, you may get bored with same sort of menu and food. Another problem was that birds would come early morning and bang on the windows of the rooms so loudly that one would feel somebody's knocking at the door! It would be disturbing, What was good is that they have too many activities for guests to be busy. They had a huge golf course, plantation visits, pottery classes, movie time for kids, activity and craft centres, etc. I must mention that staff in their Ferntree restaurant were the best. When we would go to dine, they would actually take care of our child so we could eat peacefully. That was really sweet. Overall, I loved the hotel, and would recommend it to everyone for sure.
There are few hotels which tick all the boxes - amazing views, professional and fantastic staff, well laid out property, excellent dining and brilliant ambience - The Taj at Madikeri is that rare hotel which ticks all the boxes. The roads are bad but that is the Govt's fault and not that of the hotel - once in the property, it is nothing short of sensational.
The location of the hotel was easy to approach. The building of the hotel was newly renovated. The interior and exterior of the hotel was very well decorated. The ambiance at the hotel was clean and hygienic. The behaviour of the staff was kind. The check in and checkout procedure was on time. The room given to me was spacious and the bathroom was clean. The amenities in the room like AC, TV, geyser and refrigerator were functioning properly. The hot water facility was provided by the hotel. The laundry service was provided by the hotel. The bed sheets, pillows and blankets were kept neat and cleaned. I was not able to see any view from my gallery. The food facility was fine at the hotel and the rates were reasonable. There were varieties of food was served. The activities like swimming pool, gym, spa, etc. were not arranged by the hotel. The hotel had not conducted any sightseeing trip. I would like to visit this hotel again. I would like to recommend this hotel for other travellers. Overall appearance of the hotel was very nice.
There cannot be a better place to stay in Coorg. It is located on top of a hill and has scenic views. The moment you step in, you are completely taken care of and you can start relaxing. Your luggage is placed in the golf cart. As you are settling down and have a sip of famous 'Coorg' coffee, you are provided a good overview of the property and things to do while enjoying the breathtaking views from the lobby. There are lot of scheduled activities from 7:30 to 5:00 PM. You can pick and choose as per your own choice. Now you know you have made the right choice to enjoy the perfect holiday. We had dinner at the Fern tree restaurant and after we had ordered we were asked if we had any preferences. The food was altered to suit our taste and I would recommend people to try Kadhai veg and Garlic Naan. The rooms are comfortable with a fireplace. We were here in January and we did not use the fireplace at all. The luggage is comfortably placed in the cupboards and hidden from the view. I must compliment the staff for picking the high quality of fruits. You can enjoy them at the room. The breakfast at the hotel is again an experience. Most of the jams here are home made and you can enjoy the exotic jams like blueberry, blackberry. They have a good mix of Indian and continent food.
