| One of Mumbai’s ancient temples is the famed Walkeshwar Temple or the Banganga temple. Situated panoramically in Malabar hills, it is dedicated to Lord Shiva while legends attribute the temple to Lord Rama and Sita. It was constructed in 1127 AD during the reign of the Silhara dynasty. The unique feature of the temple is the perennial water tank and numerous shrines of Gods and Goddesses all around the water tank. The temple was desecrated during the Portuguese invasion but was later rebuilt to its former glory. |
