"We arrived at 6:00 P.M...."

We arrived at 6:00 P.M. and the reception was helpful. Room service was quick and good. We were given Room No. 22, which is a cottage. The room is spacious with an ante-room. The Bathroom is big and convenient.

Best Experience: The thing I liked most was the quick response of the Reception staff.

Worst Experience: In the night they switch off the Water heater and in case you have to take a bath at 4:00 A.M. you have to bathe with cold water as no body responds. I tried contacting the reception on the internal phone but someone removed the connection. I wanted to go to reception but there are a number of stray dogs which barked and charged at me. In spite of repeated requests, no body listens.

"The premises was quite wide..."

  • Posted Oct 24, 2010
The premises was quite wide and airy. The room and particularly the toilet was quite big and spacious (in respect of Room No 10 in the first floor where we stayed). The carpet was however not so clean and needed replacement. We didn\'t feel like staying in a hotel, it was like a Maharaja\'s guest house. One thing good is that the room service waiters and other staff are NOT the sly type who talk too much with the guests in the hope of getting tips. As regards the food, continental & chinese stuff was fine but Indian food was not up to the mark. For God\'s sake, never order for Chicken Stew, it was a terrible preparation.

Best Experience: The location and car parking facilities was excellect, for which full marks (7) is awarded by me. Go to Police Bazar and Ward\'s Lake nearby on foot and enjoy yourself. There was nothing better to experience staying in such a well located hotel. And last but not the least, Receptionist Ms Blah was so helpful that she even let me use her own umbrella to go out in the rain.

Worst Experience: Nothing as such

"Great place to stay in..."

  • Posted Sep 29, 2010
Great place to stay in perfect security. We landed up in Shillong aT 2AM from Jorhat. We were travelling as family, but not a single hotel would open their doors to let us in due to the insurgency. The watchmen at all the places were drunk and absolutely vulgar. As a measure of last resort I looked into my Lonely Planet book and saw this listing \'The Shillong Club\'. We drove over to the place and the watchman was extremely courteous and allowed us in. We were given a beautiful room overlooking the garden and hence were save of a traumatic time out in the cold.

Best Experience: The Shilloong Club serves excellent food. The Cheese omlette, Crisp toast and lovely brewed tea compliments the weather well. It is in the heart of the city, yet you donot feel the humdrum of traffic and people. The dinner of chicken curry and rice was good, just like home cooked. Overall a very satisfying experience.

"The best thing about this..."

  • Posted Jun 23, 2010
The best thing about this hotel is its location. Just about 5 mins walking distance from the Police Bazaar crossing at the center of the town, it is still sheltered from the hustle of this crowded, bustling town. Set well back from the main road in its own large compounds flanking the Ward\'s Lake, it has been fashioned to be a nice place to spend a few days with the family.

Best Experience: If you can curb your adventurous instincts and stick to the well-advertised Deluxe Double rooms, you will find them to be nice and spacious, with a comfortable airy feel. Each room also has a pretty large balcony overlooking the Ward\'s Lake. But if you go totally by advertisements and believe that you can see much of the lake, you may be disappointed - most of the view is taken in by the tall trees surrounding the lake, and not by visitors standing on the balcony! The food tastes good too, and the service is helpful and polite, but it could do with a bit of speed to add to the politeness.

Worst Experience: But be very careful of the parties! The Shillong Club lets out its banquet hall for parties, receptions, and get-togethers, which seem to be happening every other day. During this time, the service for the poor hotel boarders will become extremely tardy. Also be prepared to have loud music filtered into your room till the late hours of the night!
