"We arrived just after Monsoon..."

  • Posted Jul 7, 2008
We arrived just after Monsoon started. We were the only guests at the hotel the first night and were treated royally. The room was clean and spacious ...very nice. The staff was very accomadating. It was very quiet, which was just what we wanted.

Best Experience: Dinner in the formal dining room was a real treat. The food was excellent as was the service. We had breakfast and lunch on the veranda.

Worst Experience: Unfortunately the veranda was enclosed for monsoon. this was not the fault of the hotel but rather mother nature. It was still a very pleasant experience.

"Excellent place - nice food,..."

Excellent place - nice food, good location (just next to Charolette lake), lovely room (go for Elphinstone suite if you can; avoid Kapadia room - it\'s next to the generator room). We went in Monsoons and Matheran itself was awesome in July. That coupled with the lovely Veranda in the Forest - we couldn\'t have asked for more!

"A typical Neemrana property -..."

A typical Neemrana property - neat, clean and simple with all basic requirements met.

Best Experience: It was quiet and peaceful unlike the other hotels in Matheran

Worst Experience: We were enjoying tea and nuts outside our room on the first evening but were forced to retreat indoors due to the appearance of an unwelcome guest - a monkey.

"One of the most charming..."

  • Posted May 30, 2007
One of the most charming places I\'ve ever stayed at. And if you stay here once, I bet you\'ll never want to set foot in any of those ugly buildings called \'resorts\' that crop in most of our hill stations. Over a 100-year property, it is actually located in thick woods and the name \'Verandah in the forest\' is apt. Its very close to the Charlotte Lake and Echo Point, where you can spend evenings. The rooms are large, well laid out and elegant. Dining is on the verandah overlloking the forest and meals are a real treat. Lunches are simple but leave you asking for more. Dinner is a sit-down 4-course meal and the food is lip-smacking. They have a library, with some nice reads and some board games in case you get bored. Children may not like it much here as except for a tree-house, there is not much to do. The place is ideal for a romantic weekend.

Best Experience: Evertyhting was exceptional. The 4-course dinner was however, the highlight - not just in terms of the food, but also in terms of the setting and the service.

Worst Experience: Nothing. The place is a little far to get to and requires a long walk - but its worth it. And being away from the main markets, its very peaceful.

"Good location and property, but..."

Good location and property, but poor on service, don\'t switch on to power backup in case of failure unless you tell them to. No intercom or telephone connectivity to call their staff for any service, who i any case are difficult to find.
