"We were three couples, each..."

  • Posted Oct 14, 2008
We were three couples, each with a two year old kid. We checked into two normal cottages and one deluxe cottage on the evening of the 10th of October. We were really happy to see the facilities and the cleanliness of not only the rooms but also of the beach and the lawn in front. That night when we retired late at 1pm, we realised that there was a problem with power supply to the deluxe cottage, and that the power was shutting down soon as the AC came on..This continued for a while and we were forced to call the reception and place a complaint, soon after which your electrician Mr. Salim came and set it right. We faced the same problem again at 2 pm and this time, there was no response when we tried calling the reception. We had to report it to the security outside, who in turn called the reception and Mr. Salim was summoned to set it right again. After this, it worked for a while and then the same problem recurred. But this time, we decided to just go through the night without the AC as there was a 2 year old baby in the room and we were inconveniencing our selves each time.. The next day, we were out during the first half of the day and after we returned, we were spending time in the second cottage and towards check-out time, we realised that the power problem in the deluxe cottage had not been sorted out. We called Mr. Rajkumar immediately and asked him to come and take a look at the problem, but that did not happen. Just when we left the room, there were two electricians waiting outside to get in. We proceeded to the reception to settle the bills and on speaking to Mr. Rajkumar, we realised that they did not even know of the problem, and the reception had neither recorded nor reported the problem to the senior staff in the hotel. We would like to point out that Mr.Rajkumar, instead of understanding that we as guests had suffered inconvenience and trying to tackle that, held that since we had not \'followed up with making a complaint again in the morning\' he could not accept our complaint, and when we brought this to the manager\'s notice he only made matters worse by saying that \'we did not know how to operate the ac and were putting a show only to get a discount\'. ( imagine that we - a family with a 2 year old baby- would call reception at 1.30 am and later again at 2.30 am only to put up a show so that we could later wrangle a discount!) Further Mr.Anthony\'s attitude and words were very crude and totally unfitting of a \'manager\' if he is one! We requested them to give us the contact details of the owner of the property and we were flatly refused. The manager Mr. Anthony did not even give his name out till the very end, due to what reason, we are still unaware of.. To end this, we were given Rs. 500 off out of a total bill of Rs. 16000 and were asked to pay the amount failing which we were told that we would\'nt be allowed to leave the place. We were put in a desperate position and we were forced to pay and drive out of the resort as it was 7.45 pm and the kids were in the car waiting for us to leave. We are now putting this on record in order for you to make sure that this kind of a treatment is not meted out to any of your guests. Even if the staff behave irresponsibly, the manager should be capable of handling matters in such a way that the guest is not insulted. But in this case, the manager was a tad worse than the rest of them.. It was really a pity that such a wonderful place has a team totally lacking in basic attitude and knowledge of guest relations and as for the manager lacking even in basic civility.

Best Experience: The best experience was at the beach where the kids had a whale of a time as the beach was well maintained and not crowded.

Worst Experience: The front-office staff including the manager and their attitude.. We had too much of it!

"Shelter Beach is a basic..."

  • Posted Jan 28, 2008
Shelter Beach is a basic resort. The rooms are clean, but without perks. A few of the items had wear, but were still functional. It appears the resort is undergoing a small amount of renovation, especially to the restaurant. The evening we arrived, all dining options seemed to be unavailable. We left the resort in search of a nearby restaurant and found nothing. To the resort\'s credit, the manager offered us a private room and full menu. The resort also offers room service for reasonable rates. Having more information on their dining options would be helpful to their guests. The beach is well-maintained with a volleyball net, small palms and a dining area. The best maintained area of the resort, though, is their swimming pool. It was beautiful, clean and relaxing. The pool staff was attentive to the guests. Overall, our stay at Shelter Beach Resorts was positive.

Best Experience: On our last evening, the hotel offered a buffet by the beach. The sound of the waves and the cool of the sea breeze gave a soothing atmosphere. The buffet had a lovely variety of veg and non-veg dishes and also offered fresh, hot breads and rotis. The staff was attentive and polite. It was a lovely end to our stay.

Worst Experience: On our first evening, there was little to guide us on our dining options. After searching near the resort, we were offered a full menu and private room by the resort manager. This was very generous, but also failed to meet our expectations. The dining area was second-class, looking very worn. The power kept going out, which made the room difficult to cool. The food was nice, but overall we were disappointed with the availability of a finer dining area with better ambiance.

"We drove in from bangalore..."

  • Posted May 26, 2006
We drove in from bangalore for a weekend party which was happenin about 3 blocks away from this resort. Pretty close to the Taj Fishermans Cove. Initially we planned 2 stay @ chennai and then drive down to ECR ( East Coast Road). Change in plans since no1 was happy about staying in chennai and we decided to stay @ some place on ECR. Resort looked simply awesome, the place is amazing and the location, access to the beach, the beach side cottages and the lawn. We checked in and no discounts , all that was on our mind was some rest coz we all did work till late nite on friday and has only slept for abt an hour or 2 and then drove straight to Chennai. All of us was really enthralled by the looks of the place. The surprise was yet waiting in disguise to happen

Best Experience: -Ordered for pakodas at 11 am and was served @ 12:30pm. Order for lunch when the pakodas was served and lunch was served @ 2:30pm. -We were 8 of us in 2 cars and one set of guys lost patience and drove off on ECR to find a place for food. Thanks to some road side hotel , which served pretty good food.

Worst Experience: -Pathetic service and the staff is very very un-professional. -We had to order for food wait for abt 1 hr and finally had to call the Manager at the hotel to complain. This was after we made repeated calls to the restuarant. Call the manager and no change, still took another 30mins for the food to be served. -Breakfast was supposed to be complimentary served till 10am. We reach the restaurant by 9am for breakfast and no signs of the so called BREAKFAST. Checked with the waiter there and he says , wait for 15 mins we are making dosa\'s. Sad the dosa\'s never turned up and we left the place with nothing in our bellies. -Some how just wanted to get outta this place and reach chennai so that we cud eat some grub.
