Our purpose to see wild animals in safe distance and comfortable place is always a pleasure to stay there. In our first visit we were very much fascinated by the night scene of deer and rabbits in moonlight with their green eyes reflected the moonlight excited us that felt that we were in space among stars. That dream scene drive us to there again and again. Last visit we experienced the pairs of green lights of resting deer under the tree fascinated so much. Definitely we could not forget the night scene At the pool we had seen wild dogs, bear, deer, wild boar, elephants. Frequently we heard of alarm calls of deer and expecting carnivore but had seen none. Actually we liked the rooms near to the pool The cordial and friendly services of the staff were really nice. It's a wonderful place for families with children who needs a space to play and eat a wonderful food next to our place Lovely, quiet and really a heavenly place.
The most striking thing about Wild Haven is its location. Far from the cluster of all the other resorts, this place is deep in the jungles, quaint and hospitable. The location does not have anything else apart from this property. The evenings by the bonfire is heavenly. And the stories gripping. Due to its small size and regular clientele, John the owner has been able to provide a high quality experience in this place. Most of the visitors there know all the staff by name as repeat visits are very high. I have been going there from 1998. And after at least 20 visits, my soul still stirs up when I know I am on my way to wild haven. If you are a traveller who likes a lot of activities, loud music & dance and other touristy things during your holidays then probably this is not your place. But if you need solace from your maddening life in the city and can do a few days of calm and quiet, then Wild Haven is the best choice you can ever make. Sitting in the balcony in the afternoon overlooking the thick forest Reading a nice book with a mug of chilled beer or coffee, soaking in the mysterious sounds of the jungle is the type of experience Wild Haven promises you. The best way to visit Wild Haven would be with a bunch of like minded friends. Then the bonfire gets livelier with singing, jokes, stories of the jungle and discussions amongst fellow boarders about their sightings in the safari. A late night drive to Singara or Moyar guarantees good quality sightings each time. But remember If the resort staff is not confident of your abilities of handling a herd of wild elephants or bisons then they would dissuade you from venturing out at night. Please listen to them. They know the best. There is always the resort watchtower placed very strategically overlooking a watering hole which gives you a strategic glimpse to various animals visiting for water. Ooty is just 20 kms from chapatti (Wild Haven) and it takes about an hour negotiating the 36 hairpin bends to reach Ooty town. Spend your day at Ooty and come back by evening. This is the routine many visitors follow. The owner, Karim John is an old-timer. He has numerous stories about the place and how it has changed in the last 50 yrs. His stories about the latest big cat sightings in the vicinity and how once an elephant climbed on to his terrace will keep you on the edge of your bonfire bench. And by the way, the elephant on the terrace story is true. Google Wild Haven and elephant on the terrace and you have the proof. With Picture. I strongly suggest Wild Haven for people who loves being with nature and can survive a few days without a Mobile phone, laptop, tv or an ipod to visit this place. Book well in advance for cottage rooms. Being an Indian and that too a foodie, I would rate WH 8 out of 10 in terms of food taste, menu and quality. In terms of quality and cleanliness of rooms, I would give WH a 10 out of 10. In terms of tariff, I would give WH a 9 out of 10. As I have visited almost all the resorts in and around the jungles in south India. See you there soon.
This is a rustic resort in Masinagudi, adjoining Mudumalai forest reserve. A must place to visit, if you are a wildlife lover. This place is located few kms before the start of famous hairpin bends on the way to Ooty The cottages and rooms are spacious, minimalist and clean. Food options are limited, although they are also open to taking beforehand special requests from customers. Food is a bit expensive but good The picturesque location, surrounded by nature, unaffected by humans, gives you the real value for money. Bonfire in the evening is a real joy. You can see hundreds of spotted deer sitting right under your window early in the morning. Imagine an evening in the middle of jungle with mercury dropping, and you having pakodas with chai while watching wild life. You get the picture There is a watch tower at the edge of the campus. A short distance from the watchtower is a water body. Wild animals come there to quench their thirst. Be ready to spend time there, and you won't be disappointed. Don't forget to carry good binoculars The resort arranges for trek, you can also hire a guide and drive around to watch wildlife Overall, a must place to visit for wildlife enthusiasts.
Location, location Strategically located on the fringes of Mudumalai forest range Wild Haven Resort is a beautiful place to unwind and enjoy nature from close quarters. Trees are aplenty and house many a bird species. We were able to sight lots of deer, bison, Neelgai, peacock and elephants, not to mention the myriad avian friends flying all over The food is quite good and the staff try their very best to please the guests. The rooms though could have been better, but at his price point in this location one cannot complain :). Overall a memorable two nights relaxing stay for me and family.
My stay at Wild Haven was mind blowing. We enjoyed a lot. The main attraction is that we can enjoy the forest beauty, the wildlife. It was such a nice place to stay with family and also friends. If any of my friends ask for a destination outside Kerala, my suggestion will be Wild Haven. A lovely place.
