This place is a must stay when you are at Kottayam. They have these Tharavadu Villas which is classic.
We went to Kerala in a very big group of almost 60 people, mainly for sightseeing. At Kottayam we stayed at this hotel. It is situated on the back waters with a large garden area to stroll around. It has a beautiful Spa with Aryuvedic massage. There are 2 swimming pools, one at the lower level near the cottages and the other at the higher level near the main building. There was a good flat TV in the room airing all channels. There are 2 types of rooms, one in the main building which are more convenient as there is an elevator to go up and down from the room to the restaurant. We were in the cottage which is quite a walk from the main building. Also, the path is dimly lit making it a little difficult in the night. Despite this I would still stay in the cottage. The cottage had a good sitting area on the lower floor with an open air bathroom. The room led out to a patio facing the backwaters. However, the chairs in the patio were the regular plastic chairs and hence not too comfortable to relax in when reading a book. The bedroom was on the upper level (climb about 8-10 stairs). The bed was comfortable for two with a good AC and TV. The view was superb, seeing the backwaters through the trees which almost touched the bedroom window!! The only drawback was the toilet on the lower level. Thus this room is not convenient for those who need to use the loo at night. Although we were such a large group, the staff handled our baggage efficiently with a smile. Service was always with a smile and quite prompt. Linen was clean and fresh. The only drawback was the toiletries. They were in small pouches and of average quality. Fortunately travelling in India I always carry my own so I was happy. As we were a large group, food was served as a buffet. There was 2 non veg dishes, along with 2 veg, dal, papad, salad and 1 dessert. Food was tasty and the fish was to die for. Service and replenishment was prompt. The main level poolside tended to get noisy due to the children, so we chose the bigger pool near the cottages. The massage was slightly pricey but relaxing and well worth it. The hotel is not too far from other restaurants and the shopping area. About 5-8 minutes in a rickshaw, which is readily available near the hotel with the cost of Rs. 30 one way.
The place is a bit away from town but has the serinity of lots of greenary and water front in the backyard. One should hire a car and visit kumarkoan and munnar with family from this place.
Everything was very good in this hotel. I had visited this hotel for official trip. The food quality was good. The food was expensive. I would recommend this hotel for upcoming travellers. The parking facility was good. The complimentary breakfast was provided by the hotel.
