My family and I booked this homestay in August for a brief vacation as we did not get rooms in the major hotels in Chikmagalur, but unexpectedly and to our sheer delight this homestay turned out to be the miracle we were looking for, especially coming from one of the most polluted and in-your-face cities, I. E. Mumbai. This homestay rests on a huge estate and the building itself is quite large housing 5-6 rooms with attached bathrooms along with a massive center room and a deck-type room covered with glass so one can take in the expansive view of the surrounding mountains and greenery while sipping on hot coffee and just lazing around. The rooms are spacious with huge windows facing different sides of the estate depending on which room one gets and are equipped with a queenliest bed, a small cupboard and an electronic locker, though ours was not in working order, but that did not really get in the way. The bathrooms are also furnished with good-quality fittings and the basic necessities such as hot water, towels, and soap/shampoo. Coming to the food, it is totally and delectably Malnad style cooking at its best with fresh, pure veggies (you'll know when you taste it), and I am still missing the food. We had at least 2-3 lipsticking varied dishes (veg and non-veg depending) every day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and our only grouse was we could not stay longer. The staff are extremely courteous and alter the food quantity to your requirements, though in our case they had to downsize quantity in terms of the carbs as our guts are totally ruined with the toxic food we eat in Mumbai and we have to limit quantity. In terms of things to do, there are indoor games, though not in exactly pristine order, but can do condition. There is also a stacked small library in the TV room for good Reading measure too. For the pool lovers, unfortunately, there is no pool, but trust me that weather is not conducive for pools and since the owner Shree Dev and family are more eco-conscious and avoid wastage of all sorts, I guess a pool just does not fit the picture. There are also the 2 dogs, Brutus and Caesar, absolute sweethearts to enjoy with. One can also go for a guided tour of Sridevi's coffee estate provided the season is right. In summary, if you are thinking of visiting Chikmagalur, do stay at Woodway for a truly home-away-from-home experience and just unwind. Of course, do not expect hotel sort of on-the-call room service where bed sheet and towels are changed every day with room cleaning or that sort of a treatment, but they do change soiled towels on request. The same goes with the idea of being at home and keeping things in proper order, on the lines of a green initiative.
The ambience of the hotel was good. Everything was good in the hotel. The parking facility was available at the hotel. The food was nice in the hotel. The staff response was very good. I don't have any suggestion for this hotel. The experience of the hotel was nice.
Sprawling, well maintained coffee estate with the view of the famous Chikmagalur hills. Nice accommodation in the estate house, they had separate rooms outside for a library as well as for indoor games. We used to have evening hot snacks around a bonfire which we loved. The trek to the nearby "Bande Kallu Gudda" was exhilarating. Overall the experience was a delight as the host promised. The staff taking care of us and pampered us with their attention.
In one word, our experience at Woodway was AWESOME! The website suggested a pretty location but one is always a little uncertain with internet bookings. Anyway, we had a nightmarish start, with the distance to Neelmangala taking 5 hrs instead of the regular 90 min. We decided to call & inform Woodway we would not be making it to lunch. The owners were away, but Shreedev\'s mother was very helpful. Gave us directions to a good veg hotel with clean toilets where we could lunch. Later, as we were approaching Chikmagalur, we were wondering, when do we start the climb?! Mrs Hulikere was once again, very gracious & guided the driver on the phone, even informing us when the mobile network would desert us! Soon after we left Chikmagalur town, we started our climb up the narrow, wooded hill road, coffee plantations on both sides. By the time we reached Woodway, it was 6 in the evening. The bungalow is quaint, the view mind-blowing! The rooms are clean & well-furnished. Running hot & cold water is available in the bathroom but could do with a little touch-up. Fireplace in every room with comfortable chairs around it. Very nice. We woke up to a misty morning the next day. Woodway was covered with clouds. Simply amazing ambience! We were told Chikmagalur is beautiful year round. I\'m glad we went there during Monsoon! Food is served at a main dining hall which is away from the main building. There is a fixed menu that is served buffet. The cuisine is mostly local. Wholesome. The dining area is open, nice during breakfast & lunch but can get quite chilly at night. Room service is limited. There is an arrangement for drivers\' food & accommodation at extra cost. The best thing about Woodway is the wilderness. We were simply cut-off from civilization, or shall I say urbanization! Mobile network is limited. Works only outside, in the lawn. Thank God for that! The personalized service is very welcome. The owners do not live at Woodway but are there most of the time overseeing the operations. Some photos highlighting our stay. To end, the website does full justice to Woodway Homestay!
I and my wife had a great experience @ WoodWay Estate. Our experience in WoodWay amidst coffee plantation, a huge bungalow, rains, great food, fire place and excellent coffee all day made this one of our best and memorable trips. Location of the estate is just awesome; with stunning peaks in the background and coffee plantations below. As it is far away from the town there is absolutely no noise or air pollution. Roads from Bangalore to the estate were good and the drive from chikamagalur town to the estate for which we had to drive through Muthodi forest reserve road was superb with coffee estates all round and rains accompanying you. Trip Meter showed 277.3 KM from Bangalore to WoodWay via Halebeedu. As soon as we parked our car Subramanya and his wife were there to assist us with our luggage. When we entered the Bungalow Santosh the care-taker greeted us and check in process was a breeze. Ambience of the rooms is very good. Rooms are modern yet they have a rustic feel about it. Almost all the rooms have fire place. Bed is big enough for a couple it has soft pillows, big and warm blanket, the cupboard has enough hangers to hang/dry our clothes. Room also has an electronic safe. Power was erratic but power supplies to the rooms were not affected as it was backed up with inverters. For emergencies they have also provided candles and matches. All in all the minute details were taken care of. You need not have to ask for anything. Room does not have a TV; which is actually a blessing as you need not have to fight to watch a cricket match instead you get time to spend some quality time with your spouse. Mobile signals are very weak. We had Airtel; signal was available only in some parts of estate. BSNL need not worry. Food is fixed unlimited buffet. Food was very delicious they offer both vegetarian and non vegetarian. Any other items that you need are charged. Dining area which is outside the house, plates, water and food served was very hygienic except for the spoons which were not washed properly. They have a good lawn in front of the estate and lot of roses in front of the bungalow which is very appealing. They offer trekking activities but we preferred to stay in the estate and enjoy the nature. So I cannot comment much on these.
We stayed with Woodways for 3 days and 2 nights and the experience was ok types. The resort has the perfect location and surroundings to calm your nerves but this is where it all ends. The inexperienced staff does not understand the concept of \'Service\' and need to be reminded atleast twice for anything that you may desire.
My stay was very nice and comfortable in the hotel. Food was present in the hotel it was mouth watering. I did stay there for 3 days. I live in Bangalore city. I reached there easily by personal car. Hotel location was comfortable. Look wise hotel was lovely. Parking facility was provided by the hotel. I did book it on the spot on my reached. Booking staff was friendly and cordial. Hotel staff was well spoken and cooperative. Chikmagalur place is very nice destination. Activities were missing in the hotel. It was my family holiday for relaxing.
The Estate is very well maintained, neat and clean The owners Mrs. Susmitha & Mr. Shreedev were very friendly. myself, mywife and Son were there for 3 days. The chef and his team ( Sridhar & Umesh) were very caring and made sure that they discussed about the menu before making it, so you know what you are going to eat. The Driver Krishna - suggested by the owners to take us around the Belur & helabedu - was a very nice person and reliable. The coffee plantation tour by Mr. Shreedev was really informative and now we know what it takes to make a cup of coffee. when we reached the home stay, coz of the cyclone it was heavily pouring and we could not really go out of the house till the evening except for the plantation tour in the morning. the next days the sky was clear and just flew away like a wink and definitely would want to come back in the future. Our concern was only where the food was served. it was a open dining hall when it rains and during winter times nights, difficult to sit in this open dining hall with kids. Food gets cold faster and cannot really enjoy the food. we left the comment with the owners in the visitor book and hope they do something about it. Activities -- not really! its more for people to relax. otherwise Its the ideal place for one to leave all the worries behind and take a break from day to day work pressure.
