"The Resort\'s stunningly located. Upkeep..."

  • Posted Oct 10, 2005
The Resort\'s stunningly located. Upkeep is poor. The pity is that the staff does exactly nothing to add to the joy of the holiday. It\'s not that they are rude. It\'s just that there seems to have been no training whatever in basic hospitality principles. Comparisions are unfair - but it does remind you of Govt managed resorts in the old days!

Best Experience: There is, unfortunately, no \'best\' experience within the Resort itself other than walking around and enjoying the setting. The sunset as you walk down the footpath in front of the large bungalow at the right edge of the property is stunning. The \'best\' lies on the beach itself and in walks in Vagator and Chapora villages and upto Chapora fort. My \'best\' was the quiet, civilised ambience at the Mango Tree restaurant at the head of the road and the friendliness and honesty of Ganga, my motorcycle taxi driver. You can ask for him at the Anjuna petrol station.

Worst Experience: Nothing in particular. Can somebody do a workshop for the Sterling staff on How to Smile and can somebody teach them how to shave properly and dress properly when dealing with guests?!

"What does holiday means to..."

  • Posted Sep 8, 2005
What does holiday means to you??? In my opinion it’s a combination of spending quality time with your family or friends or with you, exploring new places, new cultures and learning. As far as my recent experience of Sterling Goa is concerned, I am sure they failed miserably on all fronts which is essential for a quality holiday.

Best Experience: Best experience was to analyse their strengths & weaknesses in time and checking out in a day without SPOILING the whole holiday, to a different resort - irrespective of wasting 4 days of booking.

Worst Experience: I am just sharing a line-wise experience. I may be sounding extreme, but believe me I don’t want others to waste their time and money on this. The Appearance: A building who had faced recent catastrophe Bookings & front office: A shabby, filthy & stinking place with no proper support or answers The Service: No one at reception to welcome; one that appeared after 10 minutes did take hell of a lot of time to respond and react. Not clear with their policies The Room: We should call it as Mosquito’s den with walls peeled off, tapestry of furniture turned black (though originally should be a light color), pillows without covers, torn out blankets, bathroom with leaking taps and ABOVE ALL - no electricity backup and 5 hours of AC shutdown every day. Food & Drink: I heard you get sweet food in Gujarat but there too some of the cuisine is left to their original taste. Quality of food was pathetic.......half cooked chicken & paneer kababs, fish cooked in bad oil, half cooked chapattis and fresh lime soda with NO fizz in Soda. Activities: They are not there to give you the basic amenities, what to talk about activities??? The Sea: Forget about foreign beaches, if you compare within Goa itself, I think it should be the worst. First path which goes to beach with around 50/60 odd stairs needs serious repair and uplift. Once you cross the resort boundary, then comes a 50M stretch of filth and garbage. And finally when you reach the beach - BLACK color sands with hundred and thousand of stones welcome you there. This is the LAST LEG of your DREAMS being dashed to the ground. LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST: I had a booking of 4 nights and 5 days and when I approached the reception for checking out next day - I was given a warm welcome for checking out within a day without being asked a single question as to why I was leaving. Instead, I was told that I am taking an intelligent step by changing my resort.
