The airport at Bhubaneswar is named after Biju Patnaik who himself was a commercial pilot who joined freedom movement and subsequently was Chief Minister of Orissa for three terms. The airport is located at a distance of about 4 kms from the city centre, almost within the city. The airport has most major facilities like a book stall, chocolate shop, a cafeteria etc. The airport has prepaid taxi service to the city which is run by the taxi association. It is advisable to avail the prepaid taxi service in stead of hiring a vehicle on your own. Prepaid taxi service is also available to Puri directly from airport. Waiting lounges are well maintained. As the trend goes, with the increase in passengers, the ambience of the airport is likely suffer a setback. While coming out of the airport, at the main boundary gate of the airport area, you can see the residence of Biju Patnaik, now occupied by his son Naveen Patnaik, the present Chief Minister of Orissa.
