Avinash is one of the winners of #IndiaOffBeat contest by HolidayIQ in association with Ola Outstation. Follow his trail through Ooty and Wayanad and you will be surprised at how fun the journey can really be! What’s even better, he has some great travel tips for the rainy season from what to wear to how to pack!

1. Pykara lake boating: A surreal experience

Pykara is a placid lake situated between the lush green valleys of Ooty. What draws every visitor’s attention is the Pykara boat house, which is near the Pykara falls and dam. It includes a restaurant and a rest house, where you can chill.

HolidayIQ reviewer Samarth Raj says, “Whenever, I come to this lake, I feel how fortunate I am to have walked the shores my eyes soaking in this nature's splendour, my ears ringing with sounds of the breeze, small waves of water running ashore, all the stress draining away as we used to dip our feet in the water and sit. The lake is one of the biggest and far better than many others. Pykara Lake pops into view while driving down NH 67 down from Ooty towards Gudalur.

Our traveller Avinash K. Singh thoroughly enjoyed his boat ride on the lake as he says, “My first speedboat ride ever the cold weather made even the sprinkles of water on you to cause chills in your body.” Here is a shot of him at the lake.

Setting the example himself, he shares his first monsoon tip:

Flaunt some colours! Ditch the whites as they tend to get messy. Instead, wear coloured clothes that compliment the wonderful weather.

2. Doddabetta peak: Witness the townscape come alive

Being the highest vantage point in Ooty, Doddabetta peak overlooks the beautiful valley, plains of Coimbatore and the flat highlands of Mysore.

HolidayIQ reviewer Sanjay Soni says, “The view was amazing. The clouds seemed to be driving along with you. You need to walk a little to reach the place. It may be tiring for the elderly, but you can take a break and go. Hawkers are sitting on both sides of the path. The open flat area on the top was paved and spacious. You get a nice view of the town. A must visit.

While Avinash loved every bit of his time enjoying the valley view, he came up with his second monsoon tip:

Carry good music. Nothing compliments the rain, like some good music. So ensure your playlist is updated with your latest favourites. Ola Outstation Prime play provides you on-the-go entertainment, ranging from music, movies, content to live TV

3. Sanctuary Avalanche: Raw Nature

Sanctuary Avalanche is a wildlife sanctuary located in Nilgiris. This natural paradise has an extensive cover of water bodies, shola trees, rhododendrons, and orchids. Trekking enthusiasts keep flocking here to try their hands at the various trekking trails. The Bhavani temple at the top is very popular there.

HolidayIQ reviewer Saurabh Banerjee says, “My recommendation is to avoid driving your own car. Go there during the day. We saw a bear and also an elephant. The lake is simply amazing. It is worth taking the trouble to visit this place!

HolidayIQ traveller Avinash K Singh says, “We have a fully equipped Etios with music and movies on demand on Ola Play. Mr Pandiyaraja, our Ola (Outstation) driver, is rated 4.9 and this is his 12th time to Ooty. He is taking us to different spots in Ooty, then Masinagudi and then somewhere in Kerala.

Avinash shares an interesting third monsoon tip:  Pack medication and ensure driving safety! Pack your pills, lotions and anything else that you might need, suiting the destination weather. You never know if you’ll find a pharmacy on your trip. However, you can keep your risks to a minimum by trusting an experienced Ola Outstation driver to chauffeur you around the tricky roads.

4. Mudumalai National Park: Home to an array of wildlife

Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary is also a tiger reserve, an adventurous sightseeing place in Ooty. It is one of the oldest wildlife sanctuaries in India and sports an elephant camp, named 'Theppakkadu'.

HolidayIQ reviewer Dhinakaran says, “The drive through the core forest area itself is quite cool. It's better to make a morning trip so that you have more chance at sighting wildlife. Tigers are elusive but you've a better chance at spotting deer, elephant, bison, peacock, woodpecker, mongoose, different types of monkeys, birds etc.

Being a great photographer, throughout the journey Avinash kept capturing good photos. Of course, concentrating on getting the best shots was made easy by a smooth ride and flawless driving.

Being highly protective of his equipment and work, Avinash came up with a crucial and necessary monsoon tip for all travellers: Book your ride in advance and protect your gadgets! Ola Outstation allows you to book your ride much in advance.

With that sorted, you can attend to other necessary travel needs. Wrapping up your gadgets, especially your camera and phone in an airtight plastic bag is a good idea. After all you will be taking a lot of photos on the road.

The Meenmutty waterfalls, gushing down and then flowing in cascades further down its course is an awesome sight to watch from the Neelimala viewpoint near Vaduvanchal in Wayanad.

HolidayIQ reviewer Febin shares, “You can literally touch heaven from here. It’s that high. Full of fog. There are guides available to get to the top. Take care while taking photos.

Enjoying the whole duration of the travel is extremely rejuvenating, that's what Avinash believes in. Starting from planning and packing till the time you are back home. And to make it so, he wanted to mention a common yet often overlooked monsoon tip:
