HolidayIQ Reviewer Thulaseedharan Achary says, “Darjeeling Himalayan railway. DHR started toy train service some 100 years back. Diesel Engine service started to New Jalpaiguri which is at a distance of 78 kms from Darjeeling. But due to landslide the new Jalpaiguri service is cancelled for the time being & is only toy train. The first train starts service on 0800 hrs on diesel engine. Then alternately steam engine & diesel engine The charge of steam engine service is high compared to diesel. I booked a ticket for the first journey on 29/9/15 through online irctc. Ticket charge Rs/-630/- The train starts from Darjeeling stops at Batasia loop which is 3 km away & allows passengers to enjoy the natural beauty from Batasia loop; At Batasia hill top a beautiful garden a Gorkha war monument & beautiful scenes of Kanchenjunga, Indo- China, Indo- Nepal boundary etc are visible. After 10 minutes visit there the train starts and reaches ghoom railway station which is at a distance of 7 kms from Darjeeling. Ghoom station is at a height of 7407 feet & there is a park & Darjeeling Himalayan railway Museum. All histories behind Himalayan railway service are exhibited through photos pictures & graphics. Very informative & interesting. After 30 minutes waiting at ghoom the train returns to Darjeeling. During the return trip engine failure was there & the train stopped service at a distance of 1. 5 kms near to Darjeeling. & from there we reached station in tata sumo. There were 25 passengers in the toy train. Toy train ride was a memorable event in the Darjeeling tour programm” Read Full Review

Have a cool journey upto Kollem. Now you have two options. Continue in the train till Dudhsagar. You end up right in front of these huge falls. Then, it is all yours the way you want to enjoy your break. Second option is an adventurous one. You can walk along the railway track. This is the best option as you get the best long shot of the total view of the falls. ” Read Full Review
