An Adventure Junkie’s Guide to Having Fun in Kerala... HolidayIQ

Kerala is not just about the natural beauty and the hill stations. There’s a whole different adventurous side to Kerala that most people fail to explore. Fortunately, HolidayIQ travellers in collaboration with Kerala Tourism got a taste of that thrilling side of Kerala.

From zip lining to riding the ATVs on the beaches and any other adventure activities our travellers indulged in and are possible in Kerala, here’s a look at that.

Experience the beasts up close at the Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary

Seeking a different kind of thrill? If you’re bored of the usual adventure sports and are looking for something different but equally thrilling, look no further than Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary where one could spot the majestic big cats of the animal kingdom. Imagine the thrill in watching the gorgeous beast up close and being able to experience the rush of the jungle!

HolidayIQ traveller Elsie Gabriel says, “Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary is located at the Thiruvananthapuram district, we took a bus to the Lion safari. Here you can see wild elephants, lions, tigers, leopards, crocodiles but we saw two lioness in the wild and some monkeys on the trees. Neyyar wildlife sanctuary is famous for its lion safari park so mostly be ready to see Asian lions and deers. Because of its luscious green picturesque location, it's a treat to nature lovers. This sanctuary is dense and you have to see the lions from inside a caged van. The lions roam free in the jungles which is giving total respect to the wildlife world.”

Zip lining at the Muddy Boots Adventure Camp

Want to have fun while you’re in Wayanad? If you think tea plantations are only about scenery and heritage walks, think again as at the Muddy Boots adventure camp, you’ll get an opportunity to fulfill your desires of true adventure as you can zip line along the plantations on Kerala’s longest zipline.

HolidayIQ reviewer Deepa Nair shot this at the Muddy Boots adventure camp.

Feel the thrill of the ATV at the Muzhappilangad Beach, Kannur

Tired of the beaches where you have to sit down and are stuck to just enjoying the scenery around you. If you’re someone who believes in indulging in something adventurous even on a beach then the Muzhappilangad beach is tailor made for you. Have a thrilling ride in one of the numerous ATVs that are ready to impart that extra zing to your beach visit.

HolidayIQ traveller Elsie Gabriel says, “Incredible India. Ever heard of a drive-in beach in India? Well you can enjoy this privilege at this magnificent clean beach here in Kannur Kerala. We did a few rounds on the quad bikes and collected so many shells and starfish. Muzhappilangad Drive-in Beach is a beach surrounded by greenery. It is located parallel to National Highway 66 between Thalassery and Kannur in Kerala. Drive-in beach with 4 km approximately of firm sand and shallow water, attracting cars and motorcyclists taking their vehicles through shallow waves. It is a good beach to swim in. Our vehicles went right up to the beachfront and parked for the best view in the house!!”

Try something adventurous at the Chinese Fishing Nets, Kochi (Cochin)

What’s your definition of adventure? Is it only being a part of adrenaline raising activities that are fueled by a sense of kinetic energy or do you think it’s possible for a completely new experience to be adventurous too? If you belong to the latter category, we have something for you.

While you admire the stunning patterns of the Chinese fishing nets in Kochi, you could break the spell of the sunset and make things more exciting by trying your hand at fishing. If you aim big, you could very well turn it into an adventure activity.

HolidayIQ traveller Ramit Batra says, “Chinese fishing nets or ’Cheena-vala’ are a must-see attraction when in Kochi. These shore operated lift nets are as huge as 20 meters and have a counterweight lever mechanism made of stones and wood. Once the weights are pulled up - the huge net lowers and enters the ocean. Once the weights are released, the net comes up with the catch. All the while, singing local songs for morale. It is a beautiful sight, as well as one of the most photographed location in Kochi. Must visit around sunset for the experience. Do not expect much other than the beautiful picture ops.”

The rush of discovery at Munroe Island, Kollam (Quilon)

At the confluence of Ashtamudi Lake and the Kallada River lies a paradise hidden from plain sight, Munroe Island. Get ready to tune out everything you know when you are here as you let the overwhelming feeling of the unique boat safari take you over.

Experience your adrenaline spike when you course through the traditional Kerala villages seeped in a cocktail of culture and traditions. Witness nature and human coordination at its best. Discover the joy of being cut off from civilization as you wade through the calm waters of Ashtamudi lake.
