The tranquil vistas of the spellbinding Ward’s Lake

One of the most serene spots to hang out in Shillong,  this horseshoe shaped lake has boating facilities and a beautiful bird sanctuary. If you don’t like boating, well, take a stroll down the lush gardens that give this place an ethereal feel.

HolidayIQ Traveller Dhananjay Dhar says, “Ward’s Lake is beautiful with a variety of colourful flowers, ducks and swans swimming in clear water. Multiple exit paths make it easy to venture out of the park. The cafe inside the park is a must-try. It serves tasty local food and steaming hot soup.”

The misty magic of the Nohkalikai Falls

Apart from being the tallest plunge waterfall in India, the Nohkalikai falls is also one of the most beautiful falls courtesy of Cherrapunji being one of the wettest places on earth. This place is also not just about natural beauty but has a very interesting albeit tragic story behind it. Get to know if from the locals.

HolidayIQ traveller Amit says, “Highest waterfall in the country. One can trek up from the viewpoint upto the place from where the water gushes down. A bird's eye view of Bangladesh is another attraction for this waterfall. Eat at the cafe at the view point and enjoy the chill of the place.”

The surreal scenery of Umiam Lake

Also known as the Barapani Lake, this is the place to go if you want to experience sunsets you’ll remember for a lifetime.  Surrounded by the breathtaking Khasi hills, this lake offers a plethora of activities like row boats, paddle boats, cruise boats, sailing boats, water scooters and speed boats. What more, there a beautiful garden right by it that gives the place a Scotland vibe.

HolidayIQ reviewer Amit Ghosh says, “Unimaginably pretty water reservoir, creating electricity for the entire state. It's splendid location at the foothills of the Khasi Hills enthralls the mind. Located a few kilometres away from Shillong in Nongpoh, a drive by the lake popularly known as Barapani is sure to all the minds.”

The stunning silence engulfing the Dain Thlen Falls

Another popular waterfall in Shillong is the Dainthlen Falls. According to legends, it is said that people killed a huge snake living in the cave here to get rid of its terror. Tourists visiting the waterfall can explore the natural rock carvings of the snake apart from enjoying the scenic views from the falls.
