HolidayIQ Reviewer Priyam Goyal says, “Vembanad Lake - bird watchers paradise; We took a 3-hour boat ride across the backwaters of Kumarakom and Vembanad Lake. The Vembanad Lake is a perfect place for bird watchers. We spotted many birds including the snakehead darter, kingfishers, black drongos, woodpecker, flycatchers, Siberian crane, and herons. If you are lucky and patient enough you might witness the snakehead at its hunt! Do time your boat ride so that you witness the sunset. Watching the sunset on this lake is a truly amazing experience, watching the sky change from blue to orange to pink and them deep blue. Do request your boatman to pluck fresh mangoes off the trees for you. We also requested to have tender coconut and he complied! Since it is a very long boat ride, do carry water and snacks.Read Full Review

HolidayIQ Reviewer Govindan Naganathan shares, “Poovar is about 45 minutes drive from Kovalam and this is a must-see place. One can hire boats for a trip to the backwaters. We paid Rs.1600/- for a one and a half hour ride in the backwaters. The boat goes through densely wooded areas and ride is truly exhilarating. Many colorful birds can be seen during the ride and it is a photographer's delight. The boat ride takes you to the golden sand beach which is one of its kind and very beautiful. During the boat ride, we also came across a statue of Mother Mary on a rock which is very beautiful. You will find an elephant rock a naturally formed rock structure in the shape of a standing elephant which is very beautiful. You can also see floating restaurant during the ride. Though we had paid Rs.1600/ the trip was truly memorable and unique. True value for money.” Read Full Review

HolidayIQ Reviewer Kiran Bavimani adds, “A forest close to the city; This is actually a forest maintained by the forest department. There are varieties of birds, butterflies, wild animals like peacocks, deer etc by the lake. You can choose to walk or take a bus to spot the animals. There is a decent restaurant for food.  Not a big area to be called as a National Park, just a consolation to have a park in the city. If you are an early birdie, you can enjoy the serene atmosphere of a decent park. On weekends it gets messier, dirty (more like a village picnic spot) with huge crowd pouring in.” Read Full Review

HolidayIQ Reviewer Karandeep Kapany adds, “Well maintained and clean with very little human interference, the Kabini River is a delight. Numerous resorts dot this river and have a lot of water sports for enjoyment. You can enjoy coracle rides along the river and spot many beautiful birds and animals. However, a tiger or a leopard will prove to be elusive and you will have to be up really early to be able to catch a glimpse of these majestic creatures.” Read Full Review
