We booked 2 adult tickets to Chennai via in and got there safely. Moreover, we had TV and luxury AC Buses with bed couch. Thanks for offering this. Our journey took around 5 hours night and we have enjoyed the trip a lot watching Arunachalam movie.
There are no AC buses from Rameswaram to Kanyakumari. If there is no train service on that particular day of the week, then one is left at the mercy of SETC. I thought that 'Ultra Deluxe: would mean a good comfortable non AC bus but what we got was a noisy, shaking, shattering bus with no TV or music. The worst part was that the driver gave the bus to the conductor to drive half of the way! The roads selected by the operator was perhaps one of the worst roads in India! By the time we reached, our backs were breaking. Please, why can't the TN Govt improve bus facilities on this route?
I travelled through SETC bus only and reached the destination safely. The conductors of SETC helped me to locate next bus and to get down at the right place. The road is also good. Even Yercaud has nice road but the buses are taking too much of time to reach Salem from Villupuram. It will be useful if point to point buses are available from Villupuram to Salem.

During the last week of May 2016 I visited Yercaud with my family just to relax and to get rid of hot summer. I found it difficult to get a hotel to stay at affordable price. However, I selected Royal Resorts and booked a room at a very cheap price. The resort was very easily reachable from the...more »
You can always rely on State Express Transport corporation and local Bus. Frequent bus service by state transport department. Staff are cordial and punctual. To the best of my knowledge in Tamil Nadu SETC is the most preferred and genuine transport facility. They do not fleece you. Though comfort may be less you can certainly rely on them.
We came from Erode to Ooty by govt bus only it was nice to travel on that, they drived careful and safely that bus fare was also very comfortable for us and very cheap too, very safe to travel on that govt bus.
This is happening on a pleasant day 2012 Sep 18. Myself Prajith Nambiar a traveler interested to discover by travelling. On Sep 18 2012 my friend called me to Mysore to meet his lover and called me for giving a company for the trip. He know I wont say no for a trip. I agreed with a lot of concept for the trip. The right time of bus was at 9 Pm from Salem bus stand. The punctuality of SETC service made the bus to arrive by 11. 00pm. Finally we get into the bus. I love to travel with full eyes, So I didn't sleep. Within 30mints me and the conductor of the bus got attached and we started to share our travelling experience suddenly bus reached Mettur nearby to the Mettur dam bus stopped for 20 mints tea break. Me and the conductor lighted a cigar and then the driver joined with us.
There was only very less crowd in the bus a maximum of 10 passengers. My friend is in a deep sleep. We three were sharing our travel experience and we started our journey again and I placed my seat near to conductor and driver. The bus was crossing over the dam and it was an amazing sight in the moonlight. We get into the forest namely Sathyamangalam forest which shares the border of Tamilnadu and Karnataka. The forest was dense and the road was worst. Our bus is having a mechanical steering and want to cross the pass which is having 70 hair pins bends. It was an amazing drive by our driver with his full effort. After completing 30+ hair pins we reached Madheswaran Kovil hills. This is a beautiful temple at the centre of the hill. Bus was in Halt for 30mints there and we had a cigar again as the climate was too cold.
Again journey started from Madheswaran hill to Mysore. On the way suddenly driver stopped the bus and he was waiting for someone. At that moment a group of monkeys from forest came out and they came line by line to the bus. Driver took a bunch of bananas and the leader of the monkey came forward and took it from driver hand. After all went back to forest and I asked to driver regarding this and he replied " This is my liking and I am doing this for the last many years and whenever my bus reaches here they will come in line to take the bananas and then he praised Lord Anjaneya. We continued the journey and the bus reached Mysore by 7 Am on Sept 19.
Very comfortable and time saving. Though the roads were quite bad, the bus travel did not make us tired. Depends on the weather conditions. If it is during rainy season, you will have a tough time travelling. A smooth ride, not so fast, not so slow. If you travel during summer, please do prefer a/c buses. Standing the heat is nearly impossible.

Many of us think that the sunrise is the only valuable thing here, which is wrong. Kanyakumari is more than what we know. There are a lot of places that have good historical value. Even the temples, museums, Gandhi memorial, wax museum, Vivekananda Rock and so on. Not just this, there are many...more »
We took bus from Madurai Bus Stop to Kanyakumari. We dont have any reservation to Kanyakumari. But lucky enough to get a semi sleeper bus operated by Tamilnadu road transport. Bus was okay and it started at 10:30 pm. We reached Kanyakumari by 4 am. I thought I was going to miss the sunrise. But thankful to the driver who reached the destination on time.
