We left Bangalore at 3 pm on Friday. We got a little lucky because of the all-India strike on Friday. The roads were empty and we exited Bangalore within about 40 minutes. Having crossed Mahadevpura, we joined the Bangalore-Tirupati highway, which is a very good road. The road condition is superb. There are lots of petrol pumps and restaurants on the way, which is really convenient even if you travel with elderly people or little kids. After leaving Bangalore, the route bypasses Kolar and Hoskote before crossing over from Karnataka to AP. There are 3 toll posts before exiting Karnataka, where you pay Rs. 16, Rs. 64 and Rs. 24 respectively. This road lasts approximately 80 km after exiting Bangalore, and this stretch is a breeze. After leaving home, we covered the first 100 km in a little over an hour. After entering AP though, the road becomes just 1 lane each way, and this slows down the average speed. Even though the road is in good condition, the truck traffic on this road doesn't allow you to go too fast. There are a few unannounced speed breakers which you need to lookout for. The traffic police have also installed barriers at some points, which again come quite unexpectedly, requiring you to brake suddenly quite a few times.
Overall, the route is nice. We covered the 260 km to our hotel in just under 5 hours, including a 30 min snack break, and a couple of other halts when our kid had some motion sickness. On the way back, we took about 30 mins longer, thanks to the heavier traffic. All said and done, the drive was much more peacful, and the road condition a lot better than the Mysore road.

We reached the hotel in the evening, having visited the Sri Venkateswara temple at Tirumala. By the time we got to the hotel, it was around 7 pm, and since we had left our home in Bangalore early in the morning, we were all very tired by the time we reached the hotel.

It was good travel, direction signs were good. And anybody whom we stopped and asked was able to give clear direction. Parking was not a problem, although it was a small place to park, which was quite far away (e. G. From queue entrance at Tirumala). But the entry permit to taxi costed not only money but the fellows demanded bribe without which they were delaying permits. The trucks going in the right most lane should be penalised.

This is my first drive to Tirupathi. I love my car and I love driving long distance. Bangalore to Tirupathi route doesn't have decent restaurants on the left side, barring one or two near Bangalore. Only the Karnataka side of the road is four lane. Andhra side roads are not bad, but single carriage and difficult to drive drive during the night, with all the morons driving with the high beam on. So, I suggest that this route be done during day time as against driving in the night.

My stay at the hotel was comfortable. Rooms were clean and maintained well. However the biggest drawback is the lack of restaurant at the hotel or even at a walking distance from the hotel. The hotel requires a vegetarian restaurant for me consider staying there again. Front office personnel...more »

If you are travelling by car, this is the best time you can enjoy your ride. The road towards Tirupathi is very good and you could reach the place in about 4 to 5 hours. On the way there is a Ganesh Temple, you could visit that too. There are not good restaurant on the way I would say. You could find petrol bunks on the way.

The Old Madras road is the best from Bangalore, roads are wide and less traffic of trucks and buses. Has good eating and eating places on the way. It's just a fabulous temple town to visit except during summer vacations, the crowds can be big and would need 1-2 days to get darshan.
