Evening time is the best time for travelling because during afternoon its too hot so evening is preferable. Love the travel, the sunset scenery near ECR (East Coast Road) is awesome and the night travel through the highway is not a problem in this route. There are so many hotels in the highway but my advice to people who are travelling is to take the homemade food with you. If you are planning to drink then don't drive after drinking.

We travelled in Aug 2014, took the GST Road, NH-45 Highway via Trichy. We started by 7 am, but due to traffic got to the outskirts (Paranur) only by 9 am, from there on it was a breeze of a drive. Roads are not the best, some stretches are good and most of the stretches had patch works in-spite of it being a tolled road. Itís high time that the highways authorities took some decisions and we reached Madurai at 2:30 pm.

It was fun trip with my friends to our native town which is in the South of Tamil Nadu, we started our journey a bit late in the afternoon and it would have been very late to reach our home so we decided to take a break in Madurai as we had a friend in Madurai whom we asked to book an accommodation for the night. With his help we stayed at Star Residency Hotel in Madurai and had a good time there.

I did not drive all the way directly. Preferred to leave in the afternoon and reach Trichy. Spent the night and early the next morning went off to Azhgar temple and Pazhamudir Murugan temple on the way to Madurai.
The road is a nice good road till one nears the large towns of Trichy and Madurai.

We were in Madurai to attend my nephew's wedding which coincided with the annual kalyanam. Fortunately for us there was unseasonable thunder storms during our stay. Made the city nice and cool. The hotel was well located within walkable distance of the temple. But the road was badly crowded...more »

We regularly travel by car because we can start for our own convenience. The roads are good so that we reach our destination with time saving. Road drive gives us more time to spent with family. We also visit some of the places on the way. On the whole it's full of fun and joy.
