| Sightseeing Highlights:
The suburbs of Anand are a showcase of the rich heritage of Gujarat. The Pavagadh Fort located in the historical town of Champaner is a masterpiece representing Indo-Sarcenic architecture. The fort was built by Vanraj Chavda in 8th century AD. Besides this, the ruined mosques and palaces in Champaner are some of the most picturesque in India.
The 200-year-old town of Baruch is famous for an ancient fort perched on a hill top overlooking the River Narmada. Dakor, is a sacred place dedicated to Lord Krishna. Legend goes that the original idol of Krishna from Dwarka, was brought here by a devotee and installed in the temple of Ranchodrai. The Sloth Bear Sanctuary at Dhumkal is another interesting place especially for animal enthusiasts. If lucky, you may spot a tiger or a leopard as well.

Anand meaning happiness is the administrative centre of Anand District in the state of Gujarat. It is part of the region known as Charotar comprising the Anand and Kheda Districts. The formation of the Amul dairy
and the milk cooperative revolution spearheaded by it in the 1960s
brought a massive change in the lives of the rural population here. It
generated employment to many lifting their socio economic condition and
improving the infrastructure of the area. Anand is now home to the National Dairy Development Board, an institution that seeks to combine the
traditional skills of farmers with professional management to
successfully capture the milk markets in country, while supporting
farmer investment with inputs and services.
In recent years, Anand has gained fame as an educational centre with recognized colleges/universities. Anand Agricultural University,
has three constituent colleges one each for agriculture, veterinary
science, and animal husbandry and dairy science. It also has the
pioneering Institute of Rural Management. The Vallabh Vidhyanagar, an educational suburb of Anand has thousands of students staying there to study at these institutes. |
