Sightseeing Highlights
The presence of the eleven-and-a-half Swayambhoo Shivlings here has earned Banaswara the name of Lodhikashi or Little Kashi.
Mahi Dam built on the Mahi River has created many islands, and so the region is also called the city of hundred islands. The lotus-filled Dialab Lake with the summer palace Badal Mahal on its banks, is an attractive spot.
Abdulla Pir, the dargah of the Bohra saint Abdul Rasul in southern Banswada throngs with pilgrims during the annual urs.
There is an ancient Shiva temple at Madareshwar inside a natural cave on a picturesque hill.

Other Activities There are many important fairs and festivals that are celebrated here. Holi is famous with the tribals dressing up in traditional fineries to do the Gair dance. You can shop for mojaris (leather shoes) and jewellery made by the tribals.
Baneshwar Fair is the biggest tribal fair held where rivers Mahi, Som and Jhakham meet. The fair reaches its peak during Magh Purnima.
Aamligyaras is the meeting time for unmarried boys and girls. It is a colourful sight to see Bhils armed with bows, arrows and swords. |
