About Baramula Tourism
The rustic town of Baramula
is located in Baramula District at the highest point of the riverbank on the JehlumRiver.
The JehlumRiver actually has formed a delta just
at the start of the Baramula town. A
beautiful town, idyllically situated besides the river with the backdrop of the
lofty Himalayan ranges has evolved into a perfect tourist destination for those
seeking rest and relaxation within the mountains. The panoramic scenic views
are surpassed with the mountains on one side and an open valley view on the
other.
It is written within the earliest
epic of the Kashmiri the famous Nilmatapurna that the Kashmirarea was covered with water and Lord Vishnu temporarily evolved into a boar and
drained the lake waters with his molar. The origin of the name of the town
holds significance to this legend as 'Baramula' originated from the two letters
of Varrah and Mul, which are Sanskrit words for Boar and Molar.
