| Sightseeing Highlights:
The main attraction is the famous Rama temple built in the 17th century, which attracts thousands of pilgrims from all over the world. It has the four-armed idol of Ram holding a bow, arrow, conch shell and the chakra, accompanied by his wife Sita and brother Lakshman. A cluster of 24 small temples surround the main one, which are also a must see. Other sights include temples of Lord Shiva and Narasimha that are quite close by.

Attend sessions of Kirtanas written by Ramadas and others in honor of Sri Ram after 8 pm in the temple compound.
Walk along River Godavari, through tiny hamlets and catch a glimpse of the rural life.
Visit the Papikondalu Hills, 50 km away, or take a steamboat ride on River Godavari.
Many tourists also visit this place during the Srirama Navami festival in March- April for 10 days.
Bhadrachalam, which is situated on the banks of the Godavari River, is 161 km from Rajahmundry and 201 km from Vijayawada. It is considered to be one of the holiest shrines in South India.
According to legends, a saint called Bhadra, son of Meru, did penance
here to seek Ramas blessings. Sri Rama appeared before him and named
him 'Bhadrachalam' or Bhadradri - thus this place was named. There are many other legends associated with lord Rama and the Ramayana that are found here. |
