| Sightseeing Highlights: Arthur Lake and Wilson dam is one of the most beautiful spots in the country. It is the largest earthen dam in India, a powerful testimony to the engineering skills of days gone by and also used for hydroelectric power generation.
The Umbrella Falls is another scenic spot nearby offering some breathtaking views. There is a hydel project on this water body also.
Mt. Kalsubai is another attraction. This peak point was used as a watchtower during the Maratha rule. There is a small temple also at the top.
The other places of interest around here are the Agasti Rishi Ashram or the Hermitage of Sage Agasti, Ratangad Fort and Amruteshwar temple.
Other Activities:
Wilson Dam is a lovely site for picnicking. Built in 1910 on the Pravara River, the dam is almost 150 metres above sea level.
Another popular activity is trekking at Mount Kalsubai. Ratnagadh fort is another favourite with tourists.
The Amriteshwar temple, built in 1100 is an intricately carved temple. Other places worth visiting are Konkan Kada and a swimming tank. Located in the middle of the Sahyadri Hills, and about 185 km from Mumbai on the Nasik road, is the hill station Bhandardara. It is known for its high mountains, waterfalls and lush greenery.
Bhandardara
has one of the most beautiful lakes in the country, known as Arthur
Lake. It is formed by the waters of the Pravara River. Bhandardara is
well known for the Wilson Dam, which was built in 1910 on the Pravara
River and is almost 492 ft above sea level. It also has Mt. Kalsubai,
the Sahayadri?s largest peak, in its background. |
