This town is the base for visiting the beautiful Jain temples of Palitana (51 km) with 863 temples perched on the Shatrunjaya hills. Takhteshwar Temple with its splendid view of the Gulf of Cambay, Aksharwadi (Swaminarayan Temple) are few other places for pilgrims to visit.
Places of interest in the town are Nilambag Palace, the Barton Library and museum, one of the oldest libraries in Gujarat, and Gandhi Smriti Museum with Mahatma Gandhi memorabilia.
The Central Salt and Marine Research Institute, and the Water Lock Gate, which maintains the water level of the docks and help ships stay afloat during low tide are places for the curious.
Activities:
There are plenty of excursion spots like the ruins of the ancient city of Valabhipur (42 km), and Velavadar National Park (65 km) famous for its protected species of blackbuck. Piram Bet (20 km from Ghogha Beach) has old fossils and caves.The seashores at Ghogha (22 km), Sihor (28 km), Ganga Deri and Gaurishankar Lake are great picnic spots. Within the city, do not miss exploring the colourful cloth bazaar and silver bazaar.
