Sightseeing Highlights:
The main attractions here are the Gol Gumbaz or Gola Gummata, which is the tomb of Mohammed Adil Shah and has the second largest dome in the world. It is also known for its echo chamber at the periphery of the dome.
There is also the Jumma Masjid and the Ibrahim Roza, which is said to have inspired the Taj Mahal.
At Kollur one can also see the Malik-e-Maidan, which is the worlds largest medieval canon. You can also go to Kudalasangama, 67 km from Bijapur, which is a famous pilgrim centre associated with the great 12th century poet and reformer Saint Basaveshwara.

Visitors can attend the Bijapur music festival, which is an annual event, organized by the Karnataka government.
Bijapur is also a convenient halt to visit Aihole and Pattadakal.
For shopping, Bijapur is famous for its hand woven Ilkal sarees.
