Sightseeing:
Binsar wildlife sanctuary was set up in 1988, and spreads over an area of 45.59 sq kms. It is home to a variety of flora and fauna, and over 200 species of birds. Surrounded by dense forests all around, you can catch some amazing views of the Himalayan peaks. Zero Point is the best place to see the enthralling view of the snow capped peaks of Kedarnath, Shivling, Trishul and Nanda Devi (best visible in autumn and spring).
Bineshwar Mahadev Temple is a famous 16th century temple, 8kms away with the shrine of Lord Shiva. Binsar is said to have been named after this temple.
Four kms from Binsar is the Golu Devta Temple, with the deity that is very popular all over Kumaon.
Visit the point called Pariyadeva-Pashan, where you can see a stone bearing cup marks, belonging to the megalithic age. In fact, it is said that the hills of Binsar are a reservoir of ancient relics.
There is the very well known resort called Khali estate, once home to the commissioner of Kumaon, and the Binsar Museum, with information on this ecological paradise.
You could also head out further to the towns of Almora, Ranikhet, Jageshwar and Bageshwar.
Other activities:
Take Jungle walks, to view the wildlife and birds of Binsar, and be sure to carry your binoculars and a good bird identification book. If you are adventurous explore the innumerable trekking trails spread throughout the area. One can also drive outside the sanctuary, on its eastern side, to see some great views.

A well known forest reserve and bird sanctuary, Binsar
is situated at an altitude of 2,480m, on the Jhandi Dhar hills of
Kumaon. Once the capital of the Chand Raj Dynasty, it is located at a
distance of 26kms from Almora. The entire region is surrounded by
virgin forests of oak, rhododendron, pine and deodar making it a
