About Chatra Tourism
Chatra city is considered the gateway to Jharkhand and has a rich historical heritage. The historic records related to Chatra date back to Ashokan times. Over the centuries, it has remained an important city under different dynasties. Since ancient times, Chatra has been a centre of religious activities, especially the growth of the 'Shakti cult' in the heart of the Itkhori and Hunterganj areas. It shares its boundaries with Gaya, Hazaribagh and Palamau district. A majority of the district is covered by forests and it has few and scattered settlements. The area is interspersed with breathtaking natural views, deep ravines and dense forests where nature has been preserved in its original state. The varied geographical terrain, deep ravines and hilly areas, breathtaking waterfalls, and ideal picnic spots, make it an attractive holiday destination, especially for nature lovers.
