| Sightseeing Highlights:
One of the most attractive things here are the different viewpoints in the town, which offer stunning views of the peaks and valleys including sunset views.
It is famous for its nearby wildlife sanctuaries, which include the Dhakna-Kolkaz National Park and Melghat Tiger Reserve, which is one of the last remaining habitats of the Indian tiger in the state. Among the other animals found here are leopard, gaur, sloth bar, sambar, barking deer and the four-horned antelope. The Gavilgadh fort at Amravati is another must see for the tourists.
Other Activities:
Wan sanctuary is popular, which is an extension to the Melghat Sanctuary on southeastern part. This area is part and parcel of Melghat and is rich in floral and fauna biodiversity.
Boating can be done on the Shakkar Lake near by. There are also many trekking areas in this area and picnic spots.
On the shopping must-have list is the local coffee that is grown here. Located in the Amaravati district, Chikhaldhara
is the only hill station in the Vidarbha region. It is situated at a
height of 1,118 m and offers plenty wildlife, lovely lakes and
waterfalls. According to legends, Chikaldhara is named after the demon
Keechaka, who was killed by the Pandava hero, Bhima. Since then this
place was called Keechakadara. Over time this came to be known as
Chikhaldara. This is also the only coffee-growing area in Maharashtra and is known for its deep valleys and scenic beauty, making it a popular summer retreat. |
