Sightseeing:

The Malabar Coast is home to some of the finest beaches. The Beypore beach and Kappad beach, on the outskirts of Kozhikode are two beautiful destinations for the beach explorer.

Kannur's famous beaches are Meenkunnu Beach and Muzhpilangad Beach, excellent for swimming due to the calm and shallow waters. Ezhimala Beach and the Moppila Bay, a quaint fishing harbour, are other favourite sea side spots in the district. The Pazhassi Dam, 37 km away is a scenic picnic location.

The virgin beach at Bekal in Kasargod district is an unexplored paradise. The 3rd century fort on the hillside behind, adds to the atmosphere of the place.

Activities:

This region is for those who want the privacy of secluded beaches to relax, sun bathe and swim. You can shop at local markets for handicrafts and food items. An absolute must is the local food known as Malabari or Moplah cuisine. The biriyanis are to die for, as well as some other meat and seafood curries. Other famous items are the layered parathas and the thin rice rotis called pathiri.

The tourism destination of Coastal Malabar consists of the Indian coastline north of Kozikode including the towns of Thalassery, Kannur and Kasargode right up to the Kerala-Karnataka border. Malabar is said to have originated from the Malayalam word mala that means hill and the Persian word bar which means kingdom. The entire picturesque stretch runs along the Arabian Sea with the Western Ghats as a backdrop in the east. This is said to be one of the wettest regions in India.
