For museum lovers, there is the Forest College Museum, to see the fossil and dead specimens of rare plants and animals.

On the outskirts is the popular Temple of Perur Patteeswara Swamy located 7km west of Coimbatore. Built by King Karikala Cholan, the temple is known for the 'Swayambu Lingam' the idol dedicated to lord Shiva, and the 'Kanaka Saba' or the golden hall, with a gold plated statue of Nataraja.

Visit the Thirumurthy Temple 90km from Coimbatore, located at the foot of Thirumurthy Hills. Also, check out the Crocodile farm nearby at the Amaravathy Dam. Siruvani waterfalls, 40 km west of the city, known for its enchanting beauty and sweet tasting water. And the last but not the least, an ecological paradise called Anamalai Wildlife Sanctuary, 90km away, and renamed recently as Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary.

For weekend getaways, you could visit the hill stations of Ooty (90 km away), Kodaikannal (138 km away) and Coonoor and Kotagiri (70 km away); or if you fancy wildlife the Mudumalai Wild Life Sanctuary is 67 km away.

 travelling from coiambatore to ooty
I and my wife ( we are 59 and 56 year old) will reach Coimbatore from Delhi by air around 1100 AM. We wish to go to Ooty, as early as possible, but on a reasonable budget (we are Indian middle class). We do not want to travel standing in buses. We need suggestions. Can I get a shared taxi at Coimbtore airport, which will take us directly to Ooty. If not, then are there shared taxis available from Coimbtore city. If yes then from which place in Coimbtore. How much these options will cost per person. Please reply by email to anilsaxena99 at gmail.com I also want advice on the quality of TTDC (Tamilnadu tourism) hotel at Ooty, where I have booked my accommodation for stay.
