About Corbett Tourism
Corbett
Chosen in 1973 as the launching point of Project Tiger in India, it is one of the oldest national parks of the country. The park has seen several revisions in its name from The Hailey National Park in 1936, to RamgangaNational Park in 1952, to finally CorbettNational Park in 1957. It has been named in memory of the famous native of the region, Jim Corbett, who changed from being a legendary hunter to a savior of animals.Cradled in the foothills of the Himalayas(Kumaon and Garhwal), and covering an expanse of 318 sq. km, with the river Ramganga flowing through it, this park houses a large variety of wildlife, forests, fauna and flora. It is home to 110 kinds of trees, 51 varied shrubs and more than 33 types of bamboos and grasses. It has a wealth of wildlife, housing 50 species of mammals, around 580 bird species, 25 different kinds of reptiles, in addition to other small wildlife. The park is an environmentalist's delight. The undulating landscape is quite an interesting mix of depressions that are marshy to ravines and forest to grasslands.
