Sightseeing Highlights:
The only thing to do here is to visit the beach and enjoy the sea. The waves are calm and have no undercurrents. The beach is extremely broad during low tide and you can also go for long walks or play volleyball and football on the sands. Building sandcastles and collecting sea shells are another way of wiling away your time.
Other Activities:
One can also visit Udwada, which is known as the 'Mecca of the Zoroastrians? where there is a large, beautiful temple that houses their sacred fire. But only Parsis are allowed to enter here. Shopping specialty are the chikoos when in season. Located in the Thane district, about 145 kms from Mumbai, is Dahanu.
It is a quiet seaside town with a sprawling, uncluttered beach. The
entire beach stretch is about 17 kms, lined with casuarinas trees. The
Dahanu village is mainly a fishing community. The entire stretch also
has fruit orchards and is famous for its chickoos. According to
stories, this area was once a barren and isolated stretch, until the
Iranis came here and inhabited it. Now it has many stately Parsi
mansions and holiday homes. |
