Sightseeing Highlights
Though Dhanbad is an industrial town, there are many interesting places for excursion nearby.
Dhanbad has the famous Shakti Mandir, which has the Akhand Jyoti from Jwaalaji in Himachal Pradesh.
Topchanchi lies 37 km from Dhanbad and has a beautiful serene lake surrounded by lush green hills. The Parasnath Hill is home to the Parasnath temple, a Jain pilgrimage center.
About 50 km is Maithan Dam which is the largest reservoir in Damodar Valley built over the Damodar River. It has the only underground power station. Close to it is the ancient Kalyaneshwari temple.
Charak Pathar is a village which has a unique boulder of white stone and so the village has been named after it. Chati Gobindpur village has two stone pillars dated back to Ashokan times. Jhinjhinpahari village contains an ancient Temple of Lord Shiva.
Panrra village has an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva known a the Pandeshwara temple. According to legend, the Pandavas of the Mahabharata spent some time here while in exile.
Charak Khurd on the main highway of Dhanbad- Giridih is famous for its hot water springs.
Other Activities
The Topachanchi Water Reservoir is a noted picnic spot and boating facilities are also available here. Visit the Maithan Dam power station and explore the coal mines with a guide.

economy completely depends upon coal mining and related industries. The
companies which have played a major role in the development of Dhanbad
are Tata Steel, Indian Iron and Steel Company and Bharat Coking Coal
Ltd. Most of the townships have been developed by these companies for
their employees.
Dhanbad does not have many places of tourist attraction being a mining city but has beautiful places near by for excursions.
