| About Gulmarg Tourism |
|
Cradled
in the snow capped mountains of the Himalayas, and just a few miles
from the Line of Control, this panoramic meadow of flowers, has been a
popular hill resort of India. However, on-going militant activities has led to a drastic drop in tourist numbers in the past few decades. Earlier addressed by the shepherds as Gaurimarg, the name Gulmarg was given by a 16th century Sultan called Yusuf Shah, who was captivated by its wild flowers and grassy slopes. Located at an altitude of 2,650m, and covering an area of 3 sq km, this cup shaped meadow, 56 km from Srinagar, is like a fantasy you would want to get lost in. Gulmarg
today is acknowledged not only for its scenic surroundings, but also as
the world's highest golf course and a premier ski resort in the
country.

hp, Mumbai | 19th June 2009 True 'swarg' on earth
| Overview of the destinationApproximately 2 hours drive from Srinagar this is a completely different experience. Gondola ride upto second stage is must for the ultimate experience of the Food, sight-seeing and shopping Nothing special about any food joint, average and not so good. No shopping at Gulmarg - only sight-seeing. Activities & things to do Photographs to be taken all along the gondola ride and at all stages. Sledge riding and skiing on the top. Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc. Beware of local people. Horsewala, snow-clotheswala, local guides everybody try to fetch maximum money from traveller, heavy bargains required. | sapan, Delhi | 27th February 2009 Amazing Place - Gulmarg It was the most beautiful and pleasent vacation of my life....I had only heard of | | Read full review... | nomadicrider, Delhi | 29th September 2008 Legendary It's proximity to Srinagar makes it easily accessible and visitors flock from far and near | | Read full review... |
