The Guntur Museum has a collection of various relics and antiques such as stupa-slabs, railings, sculptures, coins of gold, silver and lead, potsherds and gem caskets.

Another major attraction here is Amaravathi, which is about 16 km from Guntur city. It is a significant Buddhist centre and has India?s biggest stupa built about 2000 years ago. Today there are only ruins but it is still a sight worth seeing.

Located in the northeastern part of Andhra Pradesh, in the Krishna River delta, Guntur is about 9-km east of the Kondaveedu range of hills and is the headquarters of the district of the same name. The city was founded in the mid-eighteenth century by the French who ruled over the city for nearly a century until it was ceded permanently to the British. Guntur is known for its rice and oil mills, cotton and tobacco curing barns and has a rich history.
