On the banks of the fast flowing River
Ghaggar, is the small but beautiful city of Hanumangarh,
which is also the district headquarters and municipality of Hanumangarh
District in Rajasthan. It shares its boundaries with the state of Haryana and Punjab; while on the other sides are the towns of Churu
and Sriganganagar.Hanumangarh has a rich heritage and
culture, which dates back to the IndusValley civilization,
proven recently by the extensive archeological excavations. Various artifacts
found in the excavations are exhibited in the NationalMuseum in Delhiand KalibangaMuseum in Hanumangarh.Tracing back the history of the town,
Hanumanagarh or Bhatner was originally the vast kingdom of the Bhati Rajput
dynasty. Later, King Shardul Singh annexed it and renamed it Shardulgarh but as
it was on a Tuesday, the place was known as Hanumangarh, after the Hindu Monkey
God, Hanuman.
