| About Haveri Tourism |
|
Located right in
the middle of the state, Haveri District is the focal point of Karnataka's art
and culture. It is well known for the architectural splendour of its temples dating
back to the Chalukyas & Rastrakutas. Over 1300 stone inscriptions of these
rulers are found all over the district. Stone carvings depicting Stone Age
civilizations are found in many parts of the district. It is also famous for being
the birthplace of Santa Shishunala Sharif, the great saint
Kanakadasaru, Sarvagnya and
many others. The city of Haveri is the
administrative headquarters of the district & itself boasts of a national
monument in the form of the Siddesvara
Temple. Strategically
located 335 km from the capital city of Bangalore, Haveri (derived from the
Kannada words "havu" and "keri", which means "place of
snakes") is enclosed between Dharwad district on the north, Gadag district
on the northeast, Bellary district on the east, Davangere district on the
south, Shimoga district on the southwest and by Uttar Kannada on the west and
northwest, respectively.
