Almost
right in the middle of India
is the small township of Itarsi, near the Bhopal city within the Hoshangabad district
of Madhya Pradesh. Itarsi city has long been well known as a large agricultural
exchange. Itarsi is the perfect amalgamation of agricultural and
technological development for a wide range of economical activities. This is an
area that is rich in minerals, popular regional handcrafted handloom cloth and
many traditional handmade crafts.
There
is a large agricultural Mandi that is located in the town of Itars and is the commercial hub of the
district and Piparia town. Since Itarsi is a center railway point, it is a town
of rare standing that links all four corners of the country, namely Chennai,
Mumbai, Kolkata and Delhi.
With
the summers normally being very hot, it may be surprising to a good number of
visitors that the winters are actually quite pleasant within the winter
months. There are local markets along with state emporiums that offer
everything from handicrafts and textiles to embroidered saris. Whether you are
in the inner city areas or the rural outer zones, there are ancient
architecture of bygone eras and a quaint look in the old City limits.
There
is not much to sightsee within the Itarsi city, but a visit to the city of Sanchi should not be
missed. It offers a good number of Buddhist places to visit especially Great
Stupa, built by Emperor Ashoka. It has detailed golden dome that intertwines
the basics blended with designed details. It is one of the earliest wonders
that were designed in the 2nd Century B.C.
