Go on an exciting elephant safari early in the morning. These are organised by the Forest Department and start from Hollong. The elephant ride is the best possible way to explore the sanctuary. Jeep safaris are also available and allow you to explore the wilds for a longer period of time and a far greater distance.

Jaldapara is a bird watcher?s haven. It is one of the few places in India, where the rare Bengal Florican can be seen. Other birds you can enjoy spotting are hornbill, racket-tailed drongo and paradise flycatcher. Do keep in mind that the sanctuary is closed from May 15 to September 15.

Jaldapara Wild Life Sanctuary is a famous wildlife spot of West Bengal and is in Alipurduar sub-Division of Jalpaiguri District. It can be easily accessed from Siliguri which is about 124 km away. This is one of India?s oldest sanctuaries, established in pre-Independence days of 1941. The River Toorsa runs through the sanctuary, which is nestled in the foothills in the region popularly known as the Dooars. The vegetation is mainly tall elephant grasses, interspersed with trees and bamboo clumps. The most famous animal is the one-horned rhinocerous, an animal threatened with extinction. Other wild life to be seen are tigers, wild elephants, sambhar, barking deer, spotted deer, hog deer, wild boar, bison and a number of birds. Elephant safaris can be enjoyed at the sanctuary and are the best way to explore the habitat and see wild animals from a close distance
