About Jhalawar Tourism
The city of Jhalawar lies in the Jhaalwar
district in the south-eastern region of the state of Rajasthan, at the
periphery of the Malwa plateau. The city derives its name from Jhalas, a clan
of Rajputs. In 1838, Jhala Zalim Singh established this township as a military
cantonment to contain the Maratha invaders. The region is known as the Hadoti
and the Kali Sindh River flows through the centre of the district to join the
Chambal, Rajasthans largest river.Unlike much of the Rajasthan, the erstwhile
princely state of Jhalawar has a lush green landscape and thickly wooded
forests. It boasts of a rich natural wealth with an exotic wildlife, a range of
flora and fauna and water laden fertile soil. Poppy fields lend a vibrant red
colour to the landscape while the Saras Crane breeding grounds bring the rich
avian life to the region.A rocky terrain on one side and dark, deep forests on the other makes
Jhalawar, a unique part of Rajasthan, which is largely unexplored a treasure
trove dating back to several centuries. The region is dotted with formidable
forts, pre-historic sculptures, wall paintings, Jain temples, Buddhist caves
and stupas amidst dense forests and wildlife. Built by Maharaja Madan Singh the
Jhalawar Fort is located in the centre of the town and houses the Collectorate.
