The Mall Road which runs across the city from east to west is a popular destination for tourists. Kanpur Memorial Church was built in 1875 in honour of the British who lost their lives in the war of 1857. Designed by Walter Granville, the brick red building depicts Lombardic Gothic style of architecture. There is a Memorial Garden with a beautiful carved figure at the centre.

Shri Radhakrishna Temple popularly known as JK Temple is built in white marble and depicts a beautiful blend of northern and southern temple architecture. Phool Bagh or Flower Garden is visually appealing while Nana Rao Park built in memory of Nana Sahib is a place to visit on Mall Road.

Jain Glass Temple located in Maheshwari Mahal is famous for its exquisite glasswork inside. Art buffs can visit the Shyam Hari Singhania Art Gallery which has a private collection of paintings, besides hosting classical musical concerts from time to time. To the west of the Agricultural College lies Kamla Retreat. The privately owned park has a pool, landscaped gardens, boating facilities and a tiny zoo besides a museum which boasts of historical and archaeological exhibits. Other places of interest include Allen Forest Zoo set in picturesque settings.

Excavations of the mound of Jajmau on the eastern end of the city have unearthed antiquities ranging from 600 BC to 1600 AD. 

Other Activities:

The main shopping areas are the Mall, Birhana Road, Naveen Market, Meston Road and PPN Bazaar famous for leather products and cotton fabrics. You can strike a good bargain at most of the shops here. State government emporiums are a place to look for local handicrafts of assured quality.
