The rustic delights of this small hill station will delight you, while you explore its innumerable attractions. The campus of the Horticulture Department is a beautiful place here, with a rock garden and orchid house. It also offers accommodation and dining facilities.
Z Point is the best place to take in a sweeping view of the valley. You will have to trek 30 minutes to reach this point through a steep and winding climb, but it?s worth the effort. On the way see the small Shanti falls descending into the foliage below.
An 8 km trek leads you to Hebbe Falls which falls from a height of 168 m in two parts, cascading beautifully into the evergreen forest. Also visit Kalahhati Falls which is a religious center for Hindus and Muslims, and has a small temple made in between the gap in the rocks. There is an annual Jatra procession to these falls that attracts a lot of tourists.
Other activities
The Bhadra Tiger Reserve, which is about 2 hours drive from Kemmanagundi, is well worth visiting. The tigers are the main attraction, but watch out for deer, leopards, gaur, sambhar, and elephants. Kemmanagundi is located in Tarikere, Chikmagalur district in Baba Budan range of Karnataka.
This village is popularly known as K.R Hills after the Wodeyar ruler,
Krishnaraje Wodeyar IV, who had made the place his summer retreat. The
hills are home to numerous tea and coffee plantations and covered with
thick forest and bamboo groves. With waterfalls, lush foliage, trekking
routes and mountain trails, Kemmanagundi has much to offer in terms of
outdoor activities and natural beauty. |
