| About Konark Tourism |
|
The small beach town of Konark is synonymous with the Sun Temple
or the Black Pagoda as it was called by the European sailors. Renowned
for its unique architectural design and intricate sculpture, the temple
is a UNESCO world heritage site. Built by King Langula Narasimha Deva
in 13th century AD, the temple took 12 years and 1200 masons to complete. A smooth ride along Marine Drive will bring you to this magnificent black stone temple. Konark derives its name from Konarka, the presiding deity of the Sun Temple. Kona is corner and Arka
is sun; which means sun around the corner. The highlight of this temple
is that the first rays of the sun always fall inside the temple. Partly
in ruins, the Black Pagoda epitomises Oriya temple architecture with
its gigantic size, intricate stone work and diversified themes.

| Overview of the destinationIf India would have been the Land of the rising SUN, it would definitely have risen from the SUN TEMPLE at KONARK.
