Kodanad Point, 16 km from Kotagiri, on the easternmost ridges of Nilgiri Hills offers excellent views of the green paddy fields, tea estates, Mysore Plateau and rivers. Elk Falls is another popular attraction. A colonial house nearby, mostly in ruins still catches one's attention and was the first British bungalow to be built in the Nilgiris. On your way to the falls, you can visit the tribal Badaga settlement. The double cascading Catherine Falls is another spectacular attraction. 

Kotagiri is a hiker's paradise. The verdant Nilgiri slopes offer some of the best hiking opportunities and there are a number of trails to choose from in and around the hill station. Rangaswamy Peak and Rock lie 20 Km from Kotagiri. The Peak is inhabited by Irula tribes. Rising abruptly from all sides up to 400 m, the rock poses a challenge for rock-climbers. Long Wood Shola is a wild life reserve and a haven for trekkers. Surrounded by stunted evergreen forests, the region offers some of the most beautiful and virgin forest trails. Other attractions in Kotagiri include a golf course, tea plantations and estates.

Situated in the lush green hills of Nilgiri, the name of this hill-station literally means the lines of the houses of the Kotas. Some Kota tribes still inhabit the slopes of Nilgiri Hills and are traditional artisans who are experts in the art of pottery and terracotta baking. Situated at an altitude of 6,503 ft, Kotagiri is one of the oldest hill stations in Nilgiri.
