Situated
in the lush green hills of Nilgiri, the name of this
hill-station literally means the lines of the houses of the Kotas. Some
Kota
tribes still inhabit the slopes of Nilgiri Hills and are traditional
artisans who are experts in the art of pottery and terracotta baking.
Situated at an altitude of 6,503 ft, Kotagiri is one of the oldest hill stations in Nilgiri. Just 16 Km from Ooty,
this pretty hill station enjoys a pleasant climate all through the year
as the Doddabetta range protects it from the south-west monsoons.
Surounded by beautiful tea estates and thick impenetrable Shola forests, the small hill resort of Kotagiri is a perfect holiday escape and is steeped in colonial nostalgia.
