SIGHTSEEING HIGHLIGHTS
Apart from enjoying the crisp cool air and reveling in the natural beauty, there are many things to do in Kudremukh. You can go trekking or hiking after taking permission from the Range officers and enjoy the 13 trekking routes inside the Kudremukh National Park. Apart from enjoying the flora and fauna, an assortment of caves, ancient ruins and remnants of past civilizations can be explored at leisure, transporting you back in time.

Visit the fabulous Jamalabad Fort built by Tipu Sultan in 1794 and named after his mother Jamalbi.
Another exotic place to see is Gangamoola in Bhagawathi forest, which is the origin of Rivers Tunga, Bhadra and the Nethravathi. Major attractions here are the Varaha image and shrine of Goddess Bhagwati.
Other places of interest are Lakya Dam and Kadambi Falls near the Kudremukh project, which have scenic locations.
The pilgrimage centre of Sringeri, famous for its numerous temples, especially the Annapurneshwari Temple is also in the vicinity.
Kudremukh is a hill station overlooking the Arabian Sea, 1,894 meters above sea level and surrounded by mountain ranges, in Chikmagalur district of Karnataka.
The attractive 'horse face' shaped peak after which the place is named (Kudremukh means horse face in Kanadda) is home to the largest
reserve of tropical evergreen forests in Karnataka.
Retaining its natural beauty, with pristine grassy slopes, lush green
forests and flowing streams, Kudremukh is untouched and unspoiled by
tourists. You can enjoy trekking through the forests, sighting birds
and wildlife. In spite of the modern township set up by the Kudremukh
Iron Ore Company, it has been able to retain its scenic beauty. |
