Jim Corbett National
Park was setup in
the year 1936 as the first tiger reserve center in India. Its main aim is to protect
the endangered species and was successful in achieving it. It is spread in an
area of 520sq.km. It is named after the Anglo-Indian hunter Jim Corbett who
took great opportunity and responsibility in its establishment. It is on top of
the list of places to be visited among foreign tourists.
Ranikhet was named on the palace built by the
King Sudhardev, who obliged Queen Padmini of Kumaon who was in love with this
little hill paradise. At 1829 meters above the sea level this hilly paradise
has everything to relieve an eager city dweller.
Kausani is a hill station with a
breathtaking view of the Nanda Devi mountain
ranges among the dense pine forests. It has the best scenic view of many snow
capped HimalayanPeaks like Trishul, Nanda Ghunti,
Panchchuli and Chaukhamba.
Nainital, the most famous and beautiful hill
station in the Kumaon region is also known as the city of lakes or ?Chakta? as
once it nestled as many as 60 lakes. This hill station has ?Naini? lake in the
heart of the city, which provides boating facilities and yacht sailing to its
visitors. The other famous Lakes are Nakuchia Tal, Bhim Tal, Sat Tal, Khurpa
tal and Shyamlal Tal.
Chaukori an another beautiful hill station
located at a height of 2010 meters from the sea level is surrounded by dense
forests and majestic Himalyan peaks. It is famous for its bowl like shape and the
only place in Kumaon which has tea gardens.
Jageshwar with two very old stone temple
complexes is famous for the curved line Shikaras architecture. Most of them are
covered with double tiered roofs made of corrugated iron or slate tiles.
According to the archaeologists it was constructed around 3rd
century A.D. It is considered as the most sacred place in Kumaon as it houses
over hundred shrines and temples.
Patal Bhuvaneshwar located near Gangolihat is a hidden
pilgrimage center seeped in mythology and mystery. This place is dedicated to
Lord Shiva. The way to the cave through a narrow tunnel with limestone
formation on it bears shapes of many Hindu gods and goddesses.

Hi, Planned for a trip to Kumaon in Dec, 08. Please inform the road distance between Binsar and Munsyari and how long will it take by car to travel the distance.
Hi, I want to travel by car frm Kathgodam to Munsyari, which to my knowledge is around 275 kms. So I want to take a night halt at some favorable place which may be halfway. Can anybody please suggest such a place and also name a hotel / rest house where I can put up for the night. I shall be having aged persons and children travelling with me.. Thanks
